St. Joseph’s College beat Thurstan College 47-09 at Air Force Grounds, Ratmalana to record their second consecutive victory in Week 3 of the Dialog Schools Rugby League.

Thurstan were able to restrict an opponent under 50 points for the first time in the league so far. However, they are yet to cross the whitewash as the new entrants to to the top league in 12-years search for their maiden try at season 2024.

For the Joes, this is their first comprehensive win of the season after bouncing back to beat Zahira last week in a hard fought Maradana Derby.

Shehath Malinda played a key role for the Josephians, winning the NDB Bank Player of the Match award. It was the losing side who scored first through  Nethupul Lasanda’s Penalty in the 4th Minute.

Thurstan yet again opened scoring in the 2nd essay through a Nethupul penalty.

St. Joseph’s bounced back through a try by prop forward Shehan Malinda, with Ivano White making it 09-19 for the Joes with a successful conversion.

The Josephians kept crossing the whitewash soon after through Promodh Perera, Induwara Rodrigo, Janith Marasinghe and Senithu Eran. Ivano White made no mistake with all the conversions.
