After the annual Big Match encounter ended as a draw and Thurstan College won the 50 over clash, Isipathana College arrived at the Thurstan Grounds today (25) with the hopes of clinching the T20 encounter, which is happening for a record 16th time.
Richmond beat Mahinda to regain Lovers’ Quarrel One Day Trophy
The boys from Havelock town, who batted first, managed to post 120 before getting bundled out with an over to go. Opening batter Tharusha Nethsara and Themiya Nethmika top scored for them, scoring 28 runs each.
For Thurstan College, Azeem Mohomed bowled an economical three over spell giving away just 9 runs taking 2 wickets. Harith Shalaka, too, took 2 wickets for 19 runs in his 4 overs. Thanuga Palihawadana and Kavinda Prabath also clinched 2 wickets each.

It is fair to say the Thurstan batters made a complete mess of chasing a target of 121 in 20 overs, as apart from Skipper Shanikya Deshapriya, none of the other batters were able to get into double figures.
Deshapriya scored a well-made 56 off 40 balls to keep his team in the hunt, but he also succumbed to some good bowling by the Pathanians. Sahan Viraj, who was a man on a mission during the 2-day game as well, took 4 wickets for just 16 runs as he fittingly took the final wicket.

Sithuka Gunawardene also contributed to the winning cause, taking 2 wickets for 17 runs. With 4 deliveries to go in the innings, Thurstan College were bowled out for 104, giving Isipathana College a 16-run victory.
