All three Sri Lankan riders managed to successfully get passed the qualification races of the FIM Asian motocross championship held in Malaysia today (23rd) and will compete in the Moto 1&2 of round 1.
Young Wesleyite Stephen Fernando impressed in his qualification race in the JR MX85 (12-14 years old) race as he was placed 7th in the grid out of 16. It is a tremendous achievement for the youngster competing against the top riders of Asia and will be determined to better his place tomorrow.
In the MX2 time qualification National champion Ishan Dassanayake was placed 14th and Evon Gurusinghe placed 17th out of the 19 qualified riders. Sean Liponovich from Guam finished in pole position in the timing race.
Speaking to the Thepapare.com Ishan Dassanayake mentioned that “level of competition is really high and you have to be focused through the the Moto, I managed to acclimatize today to the track and my target is to somehow finish the race in the top ten riders”
