A phenomenal all-round performance by Rashmika Opatha helped St.Thomas’ College Mt.Lavinia to book their seats at the Semi-finals of the Singer Cup under 19 Division one tournament after defeating Richmond College Galle on first innings today.
Batting first at Thora grounds Richmondites were haplessly bundled out for 143 runs. Sri Lanka under 19 poolist; the ambidextrous Kamindu Mendis hammered a constructive 60-run knock allowing Rashmika Opatha and Sachitha Jayathilake to bag 3 scalps apiece.
Right-handed Rashmika constructed St.Thomas’ innings stroking a well-earned 82 to post a formidable 208 on the board in return. Sri Lanka under 19 skipper Charith Asalanka pegged back the hosts’ batting by claiming a five-wicket haul.

Charith, who was unable to propel a retaliatory batting knock up against Rashmika in the 1stinnings, bludgeoned a useful 73 to pin-up 207 for 9 in their 2nd innings before the declaration.
Having the 1st innings honours in hand, the rapturous lads from Mt.Lavinia went on to score another 25 runs for the loss of one in reply when the match was stopped on umpires’ decision.
