Three matches of the Singer Schools U19 tournament concluded today (18th) with S. Thomas’ and Nalanda recording outright victories while the Josephians secured a first innings win.
S. Thomas’ vs Trinity
The Thomians completed a brilliant come from behind win, when they went past the winning line with one wicket remaining at Mount Lavinia.
Resuming from their overnight score of 123/3, Thomians lost wickets at regular intervals before they decided to make a positive declaration, still trailing the Trinitians by 45 runs.
Thevin Eariyagama (4/18), Dellon Pieris (3/25) and Pavith Rathnayaka(3/29) backed that decision brilliantly as they shared the ten wickets between them to bundle out Trinity for just 76 runs in 22.5 overs.
The Thomians went through some anxious moments in pursuit of their victory target of 122 but eventually got there with one wicket in hand. Skipper Romesh Nallapperuna led the way with an unbeaten 35 under pressure.

St. Benedict’s vs St. Joseph’s
The Josephians batted throughout day two as they reached 364/8 at close while also securing a first innings win against the Benedictines at Darley road.
The star of the day was Nipun Sumanasinghe who hit his third century of the season while also passing the magical 1000 run mark in the process.
Pahan Perera and Jehan Fernandopulle also chipped in with half centuries for the hosts while right arm quick Reshan Kavishka picked up three wickets for the visitors.

Maliyadewa vs Nalanda
Nalanda College recorded a convincing six wicket win over Maliyadewa in the game that concluded at Nalanda college grounds in Colombo today.
The win was set up by Lakshitha Rasanjana who picked up a match bag of seven wickets as Maliyadewa were bowled out for 179 in their second innings.
Damitha Silva also picked up seven wickets for Maliyadewa but unfortunately he ended up on the losing side as the Nalandians reached their target of 100 for the loss of just four wickets.
