Sri Lanka U19 cricket team registered a convincing 7-wicket win over United Arab Emirates U19 cricket team in the opening match of the U19 Youth Asia Cup 2017 played on Friday at Royal Selangor Club in Malaysia.

The Lankan bowlers led by left-arm seamer Thisaru Rashmika Dilshan dismantled the boys from the gulf nation for just 66 runs in 22 overs and then the islanders took only 16 overs to reach the target.
After opting to bat first, UAE lost their skipper Fahad Nawaz in the very first ball when Dilshan castled the right-hander with a cracking delivery. Since then, UAE batsmen had no answer against the quality seam bowling by the Lankan unit.
Syed Haider, the wicket-keeper batsman top-scored with 16 runs while Dilshan, the Trinitian captured 4 wickets for 17 runs bowling 8 overs while vice-captain Jehan Daniel captured 3 scalps for 14 runs. Left-arm seamer Kalana Perera making his Sri Lanka U19 debut took one wicket while left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama bagged the final two wickets.
Chasing just 67 runs to win, Sri Lanka U19s lost three wickets – Hasitha Boyagoda, Dhananjaya Lakshan and Krishan Sanjula cheaply. Skipper Kamindu Mendis held the fort scoring an unbeaten 40-ball 27 for the winners.
UAE U19 – 66 all out in 22 overs: Syed Haider 16, Thisaru Rashmika Dilshan 4/17, Jehan Daniel 3/14, Praveen Jayawickrama 2/13.
SL U19 – 68/3 in 16 overs: Kamindu Mendis 27*, Krishan Sanjula 15, Nipun Dananjaya 11*, Shah Faisal Khan 2/30.
Sri Lanka U19s will take on Afghanistan U19s tomorrow, 11th November at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lampur. Afghans defeated Pakistan today by 7 wickets after bowling out them for just 57 runs.
