Sri Lankan Test opener, Lahiru Thirimanne, is set to miss the upcoming 2-Test series between Sri Lanka and the West Indies due to the impending birth of his 2nd child.
Thirimanne is currently in Australia and there were rumours that he could soon announce his retirement from the game, when news of his performances for Endeavour Hills CC and imminent Victoria sub-district cricket debut surfaced on social media.
However, Thirimanne has quashed all rumours with a post on his social media profiles, assuring the cricketing community that he has no plans of retiring at the moment.
Thirimanne had a tough few years leading up to 2021, but things seemed to have turned around for him in Test cricket this year, with 659 runs in 13 innings under his belt, at an average of 50+. He is also the third highest run-getter in Test cricket in 2021 at the moment.
