Experienced campaigner Lahiru Thirimanne has been forced to leave Sri Lanka’s tour of England after sustaining a lower-back strain during practice. Niroshan Dickwella, who is already in England with the Sri Lanka A team, has been named as Thirimanne’s replacement. Dickwella was a part of the Test squad but did not get a game whereas Thrimanne played all three Tests but has not been able to make it into the ODI XI.
Both Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal are also said to be nursing hamstring injuries but have continued to play. All-rounder Farveez Maharoof on the other hand is said to have sustained an injury to his left hand but continues to play as well.
Sri Lanka’s fast bowling stocks are already depleted due to the injuries to Dhammika Prasad and Dushmantha Chameera as well as the suspension of Shaminda Eranga and losing Mathews’ and Maharoof to injury would be a big blow.
