Thirimanne, Avishka star as MAS Unichela lose

Coming into the game as the favourites, the star-studded MAS-Unichela won the toss and elected to field first. Taking the crease first, the Hayleys top order batted brilliantly to see their team home. Following his excellent 109 not out Thirimanne kept his magnificent form going in this outing too. He anchored the innings throughout in which he made a fine 80 with the bat. Young Avishka Fernando gave him massive support as he recorded a fifty to his name. Avishka scored 59 runs while Dhammika Prasad took 4 wickets for 50 runs. Hayleys were bowled out for 267 runs in 48.5 overs.

There was a lot to do for the Thilakaratne brothers where only the younger stood up to the challenge. Except for Sampath’s 68, the rest were all below par performances with the bat from the Unichela batsmen. The left-arm duo of Hayleys, Prabath Jayasuriya and Lasith Embuldeniya did most of the damage with the ball. The pair bagged 3 wickets each as Unchela were wrapped up for 203 in 39.4 overs.
