St. Servatius College took the 1st innings win despite Irushka Thimira’s brilliant spell of 6/47 for Devapathiraja College, in an U19 Schools Cricket match at the Uyanwatta Grounds in Matara.
The St. Servatius bowlers did maximum justice to their capatain’s decision to bowl first as they managed to restrict Devapathiraja to 113 in their 1st innings. None of boys from Devapathiraja crossed the 30-run mark while Kushan Wijerama and Tharush Damindu shared 7 wickets for St. Servatius.
St. Servatius didn’t have a much better run with the bat, falling cheaply to 123 runs courtesy Irushka Thimira’s six-wicket haul.
Devapathiraja lost their first 03 wickets for only 21 runs in their 2nd innings but Darshaka Sandeep and Jeewaka Shashen built a valuable 69-run partnership as they declared on 151/8.
Chasing 132 to win, St. Servatius’ batters started off well. But rain denied them victory with stumps being called with them on 110/4.
