Thilina Perera slams 160; St. Sebastian’s win by 62 runs

Thilina Perera scored a magnificent century as Wesley College, Colombo dominated their centenary game against St. Joseph’s College, Colombo in their Singer-cup traditional game which concluded  at the Campbell Park.

In reply to the 268 runs made by the Josephians in the first day, the hosts put up a brilliant performance with the bat as they amassed to 324 runs in 102.2 overs. Right-handed Thilina Perera’s 225 ball 160 was the highlight of the day, while right-arm quick Lakshan Gamage finished with a 5 wicket haul for the visitors.

St. Joseph’s batting in their second innings were in tatters as they lost 6 wickets for only 48 runs at stumps. Seamer Ruchika Dangalla picked up 3 for 15 for the home team, while left-hander Nipun Samarasinghe remained unbeaten on 25.

St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa overcame De Mazenod College, Kandana by 62 runs in their Singer-cup traditional game which ended in Kandana.

The lads from Moratuwa went on to score 194 in the second innings adding to their slim 19-run first innings lead.  Right-handed Tharusha Fernando made a valuable 64 whereas Deshan

Fernando completed a 6 wicket haul for the home team.

Chasing a victory target of 214, the hosts fell short by 62 runs as Vinuja Ranasinghe grabbed 6 for 55 to help the Moratu boys to a convincing win.

Prince of wales College vs DS Senanayake College

Prince of Wales, College took full control in the drawn game against DS Senanayake, College in Moratuwa.

Resuming on 63 for 3, the visitors were bundled out for 168 runs inside 55 overs. In reply to 266 made by the Cambrians in the first innings, Vihan Gunasekara top scored with 35 while left-arm spinner, Thilan Nimesh grabbed 3 wickets with the ball.

The home team batting second declared their innings on 109 for 9 wickets as they played positive cricket to chase an outright win. Dasun Dimasha claimed a 5 wicket haul for the visitors.

Batting in the fourth innings, DS Senanayake held on to a draw even though they lost 7 wickets for 94 runs.

Royal College v St. Anthony’s College

St. Anthony’s College came back strong to win the first innings against Royal College, Colombo in their traditional game which ended in Kandy.

The hosts managed to score 241 in 74.2 overs as they took the first innings lead in reply to 190 which the Royalists made during the first day. Sunera Jayasinghe stroked a brilliant 86 for the lads from Kandy and he was supported by Thiksha Gunasinghe who made useful 60 as right-arm quick Himesh Ramanayake finished with a 5 wicket haul.

Pasindu Sooriyabandara and Kavindu Madarasinghe made half tons as the visitors were in a commanding position in second innings as they finished on 237 for 5 in 56 overs,

Ananda College took major honours against St. Peter’s College in their traditional game which was worked off at Ananda grounds.

Half-centuries from Kavindu Gimhan and skipper Kavishka Anjula guided Ananda College to 209 for 9 in 58 overs as they declared the first innings. Left arm spinner, Miflal Ameen was the most successful bowler for the Peterites as he finished with 4 for 58 for the lads from Bambalapitiya.

Right-handed Santhush Gunathilake scored a classy 60 as the Peterites made 194 for 4 in the second innings at close of play. Earlier in the first innings the visitors were bundled out for 182.
