Samaraweera left Sri Lanka coaching staff after being removed as the batting coach of the national team just before the World Cup held last month. He also held the same role in the Bangladesh Cricket team under the same head coach Chandika Hathirusinghe.

“Having an extra support coach worked really well for us at the World Cup where we had Luke Ronchi on board, and we’re sure Thilan will also offer a lot to the group.” Stead further added.

Both teams will begin their World Test Championship 2019-21 with this 2-Test series which is scheduled to begin on the 14th of August at the Galle International Cricket stadium.
