Thilan Samaraweera appointed Sri Lanka batting coach

Former middle order batsman, Thilan Samaraweera has been appointed Sri Lanka national cricket team batting coach till the end of 2019 World Cup, ThePapare.com reliably learns.

The 40-year old has scored over 5000 Test runs at an average over 48 in 81 Tests for Sri Lanka.

Samaraweera migrated to Australia after retiring in 2013 and has had several coaching experiences with the most recent one being with the Bangladesh national team as their batting coach.

He is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka on Monday, days before his first assignment starts in India where Sri Lanka is set to play 3 Tests, 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is.

After Graham Ford’s resignation, Hashan Thillakarathne and Avishka Gunawardene worked as the batting coach in the past few series against Zimbabwe, India and Pakistan.
