Newly promoted Thihariya Youth ended Dialog Champions League group leader Navy SC’s six match unbeaten streak in front of their vociferous fans at the Sri Bodhi grounds.
Navy were on a high with wins against top of the table teams including Army SC while Thihariya Youth are battling at the bottom of the table with just two points in six games.
It was the home side who got off to a flying start attacking at every given opportunity. Navy were dumb struck with this energetic start from Thihariya Youth and never really recovered to pose a threat to the Thihariya lads.
Thihariya Youth got the only goal of the match when Mohomed Rajsheron scored in the 35th minute sending the fans into ecstasy. After the halftime Navy changed their tactics which posed a few problems for the home defense but the defense held resolute to secure a famous win and three points.
Ekanayaka rescues a point for Pelicans
A.M. Ekanayaka scored deep into injury time to cancel out Tan Tense’s goal and earn a point for Pelicans SC at the Baddegana Football Complex.
Neither side scored in a scrappy first half and the game was heading for a likely draw when Tan Tense scored in the 76th minute to give Nandimithra SC the lead.
Nandimithra were heading for the three points with seconds left when Ekanayaka struck the equalizer to the rude shock of the hosts.
Solid dominate New Young’s
Solid dominated proceedings but could only score two goals with the second coming in the final minute with New Young’s searching for an equalizer.
Solid opened the accounts early on with Shola scoring in the 4th minute. Solid had majority of the possession but the New Young’s defense held firm. New Young’s frustrated Solid and as the minutes were running out sensed they could score the equalizer. However Gnanaruban sent the game beyond a doubt for the home side with the second goal in the 90th minute.
