They made an Arsenal of us!

Last two weeks’ football was absolutely intensely amazing -I mean, how much more better can it get being a football fan right now?! (Excluding them Mourinho worshippers out there) The Merseyside sacking, der klassiker, Klopp, Aguero, mortal Barca and many more things that equally Mata to come!

Let’s first head to the land of the league in which the champs have become the chumps, all title contenders have already lost at least twice, surprise results and sackings have become the norm, away wins outnumber the home victories and where striker Harry Kane scores for everyone. The land where possibly the strangest league season is happening at the moment: England. 15085-2

Firstly, let’s start with how the Arsenal vs Manchester United match was building up to be quite the ‘clash of the titans’ kind of match, but came off looking like a dominatrix video your mom/wife/girlfriend wouldn’t be too happy of if they caught you watching. Especially for them Gunners -If you know what I mean.
That Chilean guy, I tell you! Brutal! Also, I think a lot of credit goes to the big-eyed German, Ozil. Gave us quite the glance of the Ozil football was starting to miss. United have a solid lineup. Skillful and tactically solid. But the intensity, energy, and most importantly the pace of Arsenal was just too hot even for the Red Devils to handle. Take notes, Bayern Munich!

Talking about Manchester, the noisy neighbours sure did stir up quite the commotion. 5 times, I’d say. Manchester City showed their awesome attacking prowess (Also called Aguero) beating Newcastle United 6-1. Aguero joined Dimitar Berbatov, Jermain Defoe, Alan Shearer and Andy Cole in scoring 5 goals in a Premier League game. Not only did he bag 5 goals in one game, he managed it in just a period of 20 minutes. A Premier League record time, for you. And there’s a Lewandowski out there somewhere saying, ‘That’s cute’. Banter aside, in all honesty, when Aguero is in such full form, there’s barely any other striker to compare with in world football.

15085-4Now, let us see the Merseyside of things. The sacking of Brendan Rogers created quite the ruckus in the football. Why was Brendan Rogers sacked? A lot of rumours say it is more to do with money than with football, as winning is not just about glory, as it is also about hard cash. Did Liverpool make the right call sacking Brendan Rogers? That’s actually quite a hard question to find an answer for, but one thing I can tell you is, the replacement they brought in for Rogers is an absolutely interesting one. Jurgen Klopp is as brilliant a manager as many, but it’s how he portrays a bit of many a successful manager that makes him unique. His tactical and development style in football makes him look like a modernizing force in the mould of Arsene Wenger, while his cheeky, cocky attitude at times gives you a slight Mourinho-esque reflection, and his sideline reactions and antics has a slight bit of Guardiola in him. With Jurgen Klopp in the helm of Liverpool, I’m not sure how long he will need to turn the club back to it’s glory days, if possible, 15085-5but one thing can be assured is, the youth and development of Liverpool players is without a doubt in safe hands. Also, there’s a big rumour going about Klopp wanting to bring one of his old Dortmund development products, Lewandowski in to the Merseyside club –Klopp’s revenge on Bayern, maybe? However, the thing I shall most enthusiastically be looking forward to will be the cap he will be wearing on game day –that is if he does decide to continue his traditional style of sporting one!

Lastly, to end the chapter on Premier League football, we go towards the end of the Premier League table. Chelsea, the club managed by the ‘special one’ seems to be trying their best to find themselves a ‘special’ spot on the lower end of the table as of recent, with a 3-1 loss at the hands of Southampton. Neither were they doing anything special in the Champions League, losing to Mourinho’s very own Porto. Not so special anymore? Yet to see.

15085-6Meanwhile in Deutschland, rampant Bayern Munich crushed their arch-nemesis-of-late, Dortmund, in a thumping 5-1 victory, with two goals apiece from Muller the unpredictable and Lewangoalski –equaling a league record with their 8th win in 8 matches (Record previously held by.. *drum rolls* themselves). Has anybody realized how Bayern is shifting into more of a central-attacking system than wide-playing system? Well technically, I should say re-shifting, as back before the era of Robben and Ribery, Bayern was more of a central attacking system with players like Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose upfront. This season, they have brought in two powerful and pacey wingers in Douglas Costa and Kingsley Coman, but the crucially, not to replicate the ‘Robbery’ factor to create something called the ‘CoCo’ factor, but instead as inverted wingers, to provide ammunition and make full use of the two deadly forwards, Muller and Lewandowski. You get that forward, backed with powerful runs from Vidal, vision from Thiago, Lahm and co. back in their rightful positions in front of the behemoth Neuer in front of goal, and you’ve got yourself a team to match any other in the football world. The two forwards combined boasts a goal tally of 20 league goals this season –more goals than any of the Premier league clubs this season. Take notes, Gunners!

In Spain, the Catalan giants, Barcelona, are turning out to look like a small and normal human with just a giant shadow of the little Messi. Newly-bald Neymar scored one against Sevilla to show that it’s not just a Messi-show, but failed miserably as the Barcelona-show. Let’s hope their little magician comes back sooner with a miraculous recovery! The Madrid clash ended in a draw, with Benzema scoring early to take the lead, but being cancelled out by Atletico’s new summer signing, Vietto. Ronaldo, where you at? Also, I hear that the word ‘Trouble’ translated from Spanish spells ‘Sergio Ramos vs Benitez’. Hala Madrid!

After two weeks of goals galore, we sober up the coming week with some decent games all around in all leagues. Spurs playing Liverpool with our first look at Klopp at the helm, United playing Everton being an always eventful game, Arsenal playing Watford, a competitive match for Chelsea against Aston Villa, Bayern playing Werder Bremen, Real Madrid playing Levante and Barca playing Rayo. Make sure not to sober up too much, as we have Champions League following up the week after with some absolutely juicy encounters such as Arsenal-Bayern and PSG-Real Madrid. Expect a preview in my next feature!
