The Carlton Sprints 2014

106

After a series of gruelling heats on the 1st of March, three Men’s and three Women’s crews advanced to the finals of the Carlton Rowing Sprints 2014. The teams that participated were Bishops College, the Colombo Rowing Club (Men and Women), Sri Lanka Army (Men and Women), Sri Lanka Navy (Men and Women), Sri Lanka Air Force, and the University of Colombo (Men and Women).

The finals will be held on Saturday the 8th of March in Tissamaharama. As regattas are usually held in Colombo, the waters of the picturesque Tissamaharama tank will be unfamiliar territory for many oarsmen and oarswomen. The finalists of the Women’s category are the Colombo Rowing Club (CRC), the Air Force and the Army. The Men’s finals will be between the Air Force, the Navy and the University of Colombo (UoC ). Each institution has a crew made up of a Four, a Double Scull and a Scull. The race will be over a 500 meter course and each boat will have two races.

The Carlton Rowing Sprints works on a point system; the Four carries the most points with 3 points for the first race and 4 for the second; the Double Scull carries 2 and 3 points respectively and the Scull will carry 1 and 2 points. At the end of the day the institution with the most points collectively will emerge victorious.

We wish all the participants the best of luck!
