The ABA Men & Women Novices Boxing Meet – 2013

The Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo will see a host of boxers from fighting for the “NOVICE” winner title in both Men’s and Women’s categories during the 24th to 28th April 2013.

Boxers from Sri Lanka Army, Air Force,  Navy, Police, Slimline, Unichela, Linea, Thurulie, MAS Southern, Silueta, Unichela, Army Red, Kotalawela Defense University BC, Casualline, Vidyartha boxers will participate with growing enthusiasm for the sport of Boxing in Sri Lanka.  The meet will be conducted for 5 days to accommodate all the boxers. There will be 10 men and women weight classes respectively as given below.

All the competitions in these weight categories will be conducted according to the 2013 AIBA rules and regulations. The meet is open to young boxers who are between the ages of 19 and 40 years and have never won a Novice, Intermediate, Open” or other national meet.

Winners and runner ups  will receive medals and certificates as well as being eligible to participate in open meets such as the Layton Cup, Clifford Cup and National Championships subsequent to their win. The Referees and Judges Association of Sri Lanka will support this event with their 40 strong contingent of officials. They will require conducting a very stringent and timely contest every time to enable all bouts to complete within the 5 days of the meet. Last year in men weight category 4 weight classes each were won by Army. Slimline won 2 weight categories. Army Red BC, Navy and Air Force managed to win 1 weight classes each. In Women Weight categories 2 weight categories won by Thurulie BC, while MAS Southern, Linea, Army and Navy managed to  won one women weight category each.  The Chief Guest for the final day will be Mr GAS Gunasinghe the 4 times National Champion and Commonwealth represented boxer in 1966.
