Five new records on Day 1 of Sri Lanka Schools Aquatics Championships

At the end of the 1st day of the 47th Annual Sri Lanka Schools All Island Age Group Aquatic Championships 2022, organized by Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Sports Association and powered by Nestlé – Milo, St. Joseph’s College and the girls from Lyceum International School, Wattala are leading the score standings with 119 and 88 points respectively.

After the 1st 30 events, St. Peter’s College stands 2nd to the Joes, behind by 31 points. The Lyceum, Panadura girls are hot on the heels of Lyceum, Wattala, a gap of just 1 point between them. The defending champions in the Girls’ category, Visakha Vidyalaya are in 6th with 30 points.

Bringing more interest to the competition on the 1st day itself, Anusara Abeygoonawardena of Wycherley International School broke the record of the Boys’ Under 18 400m Individual Medley event with a time of 5:02.17. Nalandian, Dilanka Shehan previously held the record, set in 2018.

Heshara De Silva from Lyceum International School, Rathnapura renewed the Girls’ Under 12 50m Backstroke record with a time of 36.62 at prelims.

In addition, the Girls’ Under 14 50m Backstroke record was broken by Vandani Fernando of Kaluthara Balika Vidyalaya at the prelims.

M.M. Ekneligoda of Ananda College raised the bar in Boys’ 50m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle events of his Under 12 age group. He swam a 30.71s in the 50m Backstroke and finished the 50m Freestyle in 27.13 seconds.
