Sri Lankan athletics is filled with excitement and celebration as rising stars Tharushi Karunaratne and Dilhani Lekamge secure their spots in the Paris Olympics 2024.
Following the conclusion of the World Athletics qualification period on June 30th, recent rankings have confirmed the qualification of Sri Lankan middle-distance runner Tharushi Karunaratne and javelin thrower Dilhani Lekamge for the Paris Olympics 2024.

Tharushi Karunaratne, an Asian Athletics Championships and Asian Games gold medalist, secured a hard-fought 45th place finish out of a possible 48 qualifying spots in the World Athletics rankings. This achievement has booked her ticket to compete in the women’s 800m race at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Javelin thrower Dilhani Lekamge has emerged as Sri Lanka’s highest-ranked athlete for the Paris Olympics, currently ranked 26th out of a possible 32 qualifiers.

While narrowly outside the current qualifying zone at 51st, Aruna Darshana remains hopeful for a Paris berth. Any withdrawals among the top 50 by July 4th could open the door for this talented Sri Lankan athlete.
