Team of three for Asian Power Lifting Classics 2017

Sri Lanka will be fielding a team of three powerlifters at the Asian Powerlifting Championship 2017 which will be held in Allphuza, Kerala, India and will span over five days from the 4th to the 9th of December 2017.

Reigning National Powerlifting champion of the country, Ransilu Jayathilake will be the skipper of the contingent which features Dhanushka Kodikara and Indika Paranagama. The team will be managed by IP Nanadasena Fernanado, the secretary of the Power Lifting Association, who will travel to India as the Manager of the group. All three lifters were part of the Sri Lankan Team that won 25 medals at the Commonwealth powerlifting championship which was held in Potchefstroom, South Africa.

Ransilu Jayathilake

The current Asian record holder in the Dead Lift, Ransilu Jayathilake will be focused on winning the overall medal in the 120Kg weight category that he competes in. Jayathilake laid claim to the Asian record in the dealift in the 120kg weight category at the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Classic Powerlifting Championship held in Belarus in June. He won the overall Silver medal at the Commonwealth Championship including a gold medal in his pet event, the Deadlift.

Indika Paranagama

One of the most succesful campaigners at the concluded Commonwelath Championships, Paranagama won the overall Gold medal in the 105Kg weight category which included two gold medals in the Squat and the Bench press while he managed to clinch Silver in the Deadlift competiton.

Dhanushka Kodikara

Junior Commonwealth games medalist,24-year-old Kodikara had a great outing at the World Power Lifting Championship held last year where he was placed 13th overall in his weight category. At the concluded Commonwealth championship Kodikara won the overall Silver in the 93kg category and will be looking to upgrade his medal to a Gold at the Asian championship.
