Team Bulls defeated the Untagable in the Men’s segment, while Doctor’s 7 and Team Sri managed to win the Youth and the Women’s segment, respectively, of the Inaugural Red Bull Rugby Carnival, which took place yesterday (2nd September) at CR & FC Rugby Grounds.

The tournament was sponsored by Red Bull as they joined hands with former International Referee Dilroy Fernando to host the inaugural edition of the tournament.

Forward passes and kicks from in front of the kicker were legal as a twist was added to the traditional game of rugby. Off-sides were similar to the game of football as the last defender was the man to be behind to stay onside.

Twenty-eight (28) teams took to the paddock, being divided into three segments: the Men’s (12), Women’s (8) and Youth (8).

Players from around the island lined up in different outfits as they set their eyes on the inaugural title and prize money up for grabs.

Doctor 7’s went unbeaten throughout to secure the youth segment, while team Sri, which had nearly 5 former Sri Lankan Women, brought about a brand of unstoppable rugby, winning the Women’s segment.

Untagable and Team Bulls dominated the Men’s segment, cursing unbeaten into the finals, setting up a mouth-watering encounter.

Team Bulls blew away the Untagable to win the final to be crowned unbeaten champions.
