Seasoned campaigners Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan have returned to Bangladesh’s ODI set-up for the upcoming three-game series against the Windies, and been named in the 16-member squad announced on Sunday (December 2).
The left-handed opening batsman had been out of action since sustaining a blow on his left wrist after failing to connect a pull off the bowling of Sri Lanka’s Suranga Lakmal in the Asia Cup. He was ruled out of the rest of the tournament as well as the Test rubber and limited overs games versus Zimbabwe. Subsequently, he was laid low by a side strain problem last month and missed the two-match Test series against the Windies.
Alongside Bangladesh’s captain, Mashrafe Mortaza, who has been short of match practice, Tamim will take part in the warm-up game for BCB XI against the Windies on December 6. Shakib, Bangladesh’s Test captain, who recovered from his finger injury and played in the recently-concluded Test series against the Windies, also makes a return to the ODI set-up.
Meanwhile, Mosaddek Hossain, who played in the Asia Cup, scoring only 39 runs has again been left out. Nazmul Hossain, the veteran medium pacer, also doesn’t find a place in the squad. Fazle Mahmud, the left-handed batsman, who earned his maiden ODI cap, after playing close to 80 List A games, also hasn’t been included.
The three-match ODI series will be played in Dhaka and Sylhet on December 9, 11 and 14 respectively.
