Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket captain Chamari Atapaththu has signed with the Sydney Thunder for the upcoming Australian Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2023.
The 33-year-old left-hander, who earlier represented Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades, has a tremendous cricketing record in Australia, having hit two of her nine international centuries on Australian soil.
The player draft of the WBBL 2023 was held in September; no team has picked the southpaw for this season. She recently played for Scorchers, who had the ability to retain her in the squad, but they did not.
Athapaththu is in excellent form this year as she was the star performer in Sri Lanka’s historical series wins over New Zealand (ODI) and England (T20I).
The 8th edition of Women’s Big Bash League, which began on the 19th of October, will be played till 2nd December.
