The finals of the Munchee National Volleyball Championships organized by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Association along with Ceylon Biscuits Limited will happen on the 26th of November at the Youth Services Council Indoor Stadium, Maharagama.
This was an initiation based on the fact that spectators who have been flocking in their numbers thus far for the competition will have the luxury of a weekend spectacle (26th) instead of the initial day scheduled for the finals, which was the 25th (Friday) of November.
The competition has been running for a month in the Super League and Novices categories respectively.
November 15th saw the conclusion of the semifinals phase in both men’s and women’s categories. CEB gunned down Sri Lanka Air Force by three sets to one (3:1), while Sri Lanka Army was brushed aside by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority by three sets to nothing (3:0).
In the women’s category the Sri Lanka Air Force women eased into a three sets to nothing (3:0) win in their semifinal tie against the Sri Lanka Army women. The second semifinal saw Casual Line managing the same feat beating the Sri Lanka Navy women by three straight sets (3:0).
The Novices Men’s category saw a few crunch affairs as Wasana Bakers had to dig deep to go through to semifinals beating Sarath Gems by three sets to two (3:2), while New Star SC breezed into the semis after a three sets to one score against Vivekananda SC (3:1).
In the Women’s Novices category Casual Line were beaten by three sets to one by the Sri Lanka Air Force women (3:1) while Boyagama Siriparakum women made easy work of the Sri Lanka Army women by a similar score line (3:1).
The finals of both the Super League and the Novices’ will be held on the 26th of November as the Hon. President Maithreepala Sirisena will be present for the presentation ceremony.
