The 2nd round of the Singer Schools’ Rugby League 2018 is just a week away. 8 teams in the top tier will battle it out for the prestigious League Title, while the 8 teams in the lower tier will give their all for a promotion and to win the Plate Championship.
The confirmed dates of the fixtures in the top division were released by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) earlier today. The league will progress towards its end, as the second round is set to commence on the 11th of this month and carry-on throughout 4 enthralling weeks.
The most anticipated final week will see the two unbeaten teams – Royal and St. Peter’s take on each other. The question is, will they manage to maintain their unbeaten streak till then?
If the Josephians manage to upset the Peterites and the Green Machine slays the high flying Royalists in the 8th week, the final week will be a do-or-die situation for all four teams as they will all be equal with a loss each (if all four teams maintain their winning streaks till then). That makes the 8th week one of the most deciding weeks in this year’s league.
However, the Kingswoodians will also be a team to look out for in Super Eight as their improvement throughout the 1st round was quite exceptional. The Wesleyites and Trinitians won’t be far behind either, as much is expected from the two foreign coaches – especially looking back at Wesley’s performance in the 2nd round last year.
Zahira will have to up their game by leaps and bounds if they are to post a threat to the other teams but we know how good they can be if they get going. The coaching duo, Shamly Nawaz and Dilan Soyza will surely bring to use their experience in New Zealand to level up the Zahirians game and bring out their best in this round.
