Five matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 were conducted today around the island.
D.S. Senanayake College vs Nalanda College
Nalanda College recorded an innings victory against D.S. Senanayka College in the traditional fixture which was worked off today at the Bandaragama Public grounds. Nalanda batsmen resumed day two on 236 runs for 6 wickets and added another 57 runs for the remaining 4 wickets.
Right hand stroke maker Suhanga Wijewardena scored a magnificent century for the Nalandians. D.S. batmen began their second innings 148 runs behind and once again the batting did not click for them as they were bundled out for 133 runs.

Lumbini College vs Maliyadeva College
Group D fixture between Lumbini College and Maliyadeva College ended in a draw today at Maliyadeva College grounds but first innings points were won by Lumbini. In reply to Lumbini’s first innings score of 269, Maliyadeva batsmen managed to post only 166 runs for their first innings.

Lumbini skipper asked the opposition to follow on and a much improved batting performance saw them reach 275 runs all out for their second innings. The visitors were set a target of 173 runs to chase but they only managed to score 117 runs for 7 wickets at stumps. Left arm spinner Vimukthi Kulathunga of Lumbini College had a memorable match as he bagged 11 wickets.

Group D fixture between Mahinda College and St. Sylvester’s College commenced today at Mahinda College grounds. The hosts won the toss and decided to bat first on their home soil and got the maximum use of it as they declared their innings at 307 runs for 4 wickets. Navod Paranavithana batted beautifully and scored a century for the lads from down south. At stumps on day one, the visitors were 41 runs for 4 wickets.

Group A fixture between St. Benedict’s College and St. Thomas’s College commenced today at Uyanwattha grounds. Thomas skipper won the toss and invited the opposition to take the first lease of the wicket. The decision paid off as the Benedicts batsmen were bowled out for just 101 runs.
In reply, the Thomians managed to get first innings lead but were bowled out for 131 runs. Left arm spinner Jason Charles was the pick of the bowlers for Benedicts as he grabbed a 6 wicket haul.
