Olympic Athlete Sugath Thilakaratne has been appointed as the Deputy Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs in Sri Lanka.
Thilakaratne was sworn-in before the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on 21st November evening at the President’s Secretariat in Colombo.

He became a Member of Parliament after being listed in the National List of the National People’s Power following the landslide victory in the Parliamentary Elections held on the 14th of November

Former Sri Lankan athlete who participated in several Olympic Games, managed to claim Gold Medals in 400m event at the Asian Games and Asian Championship while winning a Bronze Medal in Commonwealth Games.
