The second and the final day of the Trinity Hockey Sixers concluded in a simple closing ceremony last evening. As scheduled the second day started around 9 am at the Asgiriya Trinity College Grounds.
The chief guest present for the closing ceremony was Paul Jeyaraj. The Vice Principal of Trinity Mr. Ananda Marasinghe, The president of the parents’ committee and the coaches were also present for the occasion.
Day 01 ended with the teams being selected to play the knockouts the next day. The schools from Matale dominated most encounters throughout the two days.

St. Thomas’ Matale emerged as champions of the boys’ segment. In the final, both St.Thomas’ Matale and Zahira Matale played some attacking hockey with surging attacks from end to end. However at the end of the 12 minutes full-time, the scores recorded were 1-1, so a penalty shootout was called to decide the winner. St.Thomas Matale got the better of Matale Zahira to win the game 3-0. The 3rd play-off was between Kingswood and Christ Church Matale. Christ Church pulled off a late winner, beating the Kingswood team 1-0.
In the Girls’ segment, Janadipathi Balika Colombo won the Sixers trophy by defeating Sangamiththa after a dominant performance. The scoreline read 3-1 at the end of the game. The third place play-off was won by Seethadevi Girls’ School, Kandy who defeated Musaeus Colombo 1-0.
Mr. Ananda Marasinghe, speaking at the end of the tournament stated that he was proud of the efforts of the boys’ for organizing the event and thanked all the schools for their participation and also stated that they will look to continue this tournament in the future too.
