Sylvestrians are the defending champions having continuously dominated the sport in the hill capital becoming champions from 2008 to 2012.
St.Sylvester’s college being one of the leading school in hill capital, gymnastic have been one of their major titles. They have produced some emerging young gymnasts in the last few years, gaining outstanding victories at most of the Gymnastic tournaments organized by The Sri Lanka Gymnastic s Association. In December 2012 they became central province champions at the championship organized by central province gymnastic association which was on its 5th consecutive year.
Gymnastics begun at St.Sylvester’s college Kandy in 2002, and over this 1st decade they have shown tremendous potential in the sport producing some of the best schoolboy gymnastic player in hill capital.
K.ARVAVINTH- best school boy gymnastic player
In recent past the emerging star at St.Sylvester’s college gymnastics is k. Aravinth who was a part of some international gymnastic events, and has gained many gymnastic titles under his name during his 8 years of gymnastics for Sylvester’s. He was awarded Crown award at the college colors’ award ceremony in 2011. His overall performance has been a standing feature and he has been a great role model for the upcoming youngsters. He also won a bronze medal at the 35th National Sports festival.
Dilakshan Miresh -to lead the team in upcoming years
The 16 year old is yet another rising sportsmen at Sylvester’s. He showcased his leadership at the 1st championship he lead, that became the central province champions. He was also apart of gymnastics since 2006 and his experience will lead the upcoming gymnastic players of the team. ThePapare chatted with the captain and he stressed on the point that his aim to take his team to win a national title in gymnastics in the upcoming years.
Gymnastics is a discipline which depends on the body movements, agility and strength which is the basic concept of the sport. To gain the standard of the game there must be a driving force behind this and school authorities have given a lot of consideration to develop gymnastics at the school.
Old Sylvestrian Amal Rasanga will continue to coach these young lads of his own school
Amal, and old Sylvestrian who has been the coach of the team since its beginning has also been a part of founding this gymnastic team. His motivation and the courage has been the biggest driving force and the secret behind the success of this team. He also hopes to take his team to win national titles and produce some energetic players in the future.
Within one decade the Gymnasts of St.Sylvester’ have shown a great potential and we wish them a prosperous future in gymnastics.
