St. Sebastian’s College emerged victorious by 5 wickets against Prince of Wales in the inaugural Battle of the Golds T20 encounter.

The Captain of St. Sebastian’s won the toss and elected to bowl first, which was a wise decision given the conditions at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.

Having been asked to bat first, Prince of Wales got onto a steady start with the help of Tharindu Amarasinghe, who played a well constructed knock in his debut T20.

His innings of 76, which came in 42 deliveries, consisted of 4 boundaries and 3 huge sixes. Apart from him, Skipper Omesh Mendis and Oshan De Silva got 25 and 21 runs respectively for their school.

At the end of 20 overs, Prince of Wales managed to get a decent score of 162 for the loss of 7 wickets. Left-arm spinner Manuja Chanthuka was the pick of the bowlers for St. Sebastian’s with figures of 3/35 in his quota of 4 overs.

Weerasinghe bags six; Peiris misses the hundred by two runs

The heroics of Vimath Dinsara and right-handed Sanesh Fernando with the bat, helped St. Sebastian’s reach the set target of 163 in 19.3 overs. Vimath remained unbeaten on 65*, while Sanesh added 44 valuable runs.

The game turned out to be a nail-biter as it was dragged to the last over where the Sebs needed 12 runs off the final 6 deliveries of the match. St. Sebastian’s managed to get those 12 runs in just 3 deliveries and pulled off a remarkable win. Prince Fernando was the pick of the bowlers for Prince of Wales as he grabbed 2 wickets for 37 runs.
