St. Sebastian’s College Katuneriya emerged champions of Singer Trophy under 17 division two inter schools cricket tournament beating S. De S. Jayasinghe Central by 3 wickets in the final played at Thurstan College grounds.
Winning the toss and batting first S. De S. Jayasinghe Central was bowled out in just 38.1 overs for a cheap 124. Samitha Dilshan (3/25) and Ashen Charuka (3/33) were the chief destroyers bagging 6 wickets between the two. Sheshan Udara managed 2 for 28 as he too weighed in with the ball for St. Sebastian’s College Katuneriya.
Thilanka Dilhara narrowly missed his half century been bowled out for 49 while Maduka Niroshan was the only other contributor with the bat, scoring 22.
In reply St. Sebastian’s Katuneriya did not find the chase easy as they were put in trouble by some good bowling from Kavindana Perera as he managed 4/37. But it was Ashen Charuka and Rashmika Udara who took the boys from Katuneriya over the line scoring unbeaten 19 and 14 respectively.
Samitha Dilshan was the top scorer for St. Sebastian’s Katuneriya scoring a brisk 33 as Kavindu Irosh managed 20 valuable runs in the context of the match as St. Sebastian’s Katuneriya reached their target with just 3 wickets remaining.
