The Singer Under 15 Division I pre-quarterfinals continued during the weekend as St. Peter’s College Bambalapitiya hosted Nalanda College in their own backyard. Both teams were eager to book a spot for the final eight as the Peterites won the toss and opted to bat first.

The Peterite batsmen were not on song as the top order fell prey to some outstanding bowling by Nalanda College in the early overs of the innings. The Peterite middle order however looked to consolidate and take their team to a formidable 174, before they were bowled out in the penultimate over of the innings. Lahiru Chethaka displayed some class with the bat scoring 58 whilst Thiloka de Silva chipped in with a valuable 31. Dineth Samarweera was Nalanda’s go to bowler as he picked up 3 wickets for 34 runs.

Batting second the Nalanda College batsmen were greeted with some unprecedented bowling by Peterite left arm bowler Danal Hemananda, who picked up two wickets in the third over to leave the Nalandians troubled at 3 for the loss of two wickets. The Peterites were suddenly on attack mode as the fielders gathered around the Nalandian batsman chirping with a few words here and there. It seemed like St. Peter’s College were back in the game as Nalanda College lost half their side in the 17th over. Nalanda required another 138 runs to win in 33 overs.

Things did not go in favor of Nalanda College from there on as they were bowled out for 79 in the 32nd over.
