The ‘Singer Cup’ under 19 division 1 tournament 2016/17 which started way back in September, 2016 saw its first round coming to an end last month. With 36 teams in action in 4 groups, 8 teams have qualified for the quarter-finals.

Group A

Richmond College topped group A with 124.14 points having 2 outright wins and 3 first innings wins under their belt and St. Peter’s College finished second with an outright win and 3 first innings wins to make the quarter finals as they bagged 118.76. Trinity, Nalanda and St. Sebastians missed out on advancing from the league while Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya finished in the bottom of the group.

Group B

As Royal had included an unregistered player into their playing eleven in their matches against Ananda and St. Benedict’s, all data relevant to these two matches were removed from the points table whilst adding those two matches to Royal as played and not played to the respective oppositions and Ananda College had a better average in 7 games with 103.14 points to lead the group A. Mahanama College finished second in the group with 115.03 points and Royal College got demoted to division 2.

Group C

S. Thomas’ College managed to top the group C with 125.23 points that includes an outright win and 4 first innings wins to the lads from Mount Lavinia while Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda had a close battle for the number one spot as they end up with 124.01 points , while Anuradhapura Central finished last in the group.

Group D

Thurstan College had a sensational season as they accumulated 135.1 points with 2 outright wins and 3 first innings wins to have the most number of points in all 4 groups and easily head the group D. Maris Stella College also had a wonderful season as they end up being runner-up in the group with 131. 53 points that includes an outright win and 4 first inning wins, while De Mazenod College ended up in the bottom of group D.
