St. Nicholas SC’s early goal helped defeat Young Henricans SC 1-0 in the 6th Round of the Cargills Food City FA Cup, at Mahajana Ground, Jaffna.
St. Nicholas scored an early goal and managed to defend at the other end right throughout the game. Young Henricans played with energy but St. Nicholas’ had a better game where St Nicholas SC’s Ajanthan smashed a quick goal in just the 15th minute.
Henricans, who had a few school players who won the Kotmale Chox U19 Schools Football Championship a couple of months back, came into the 6th Round defeating St. Anthony’s SC 5-4 on penalties after the match ended in thrilling 3-3 draw, while St. Nicholas also defeated another St. Anthony’s SC side 5-4 on penalties, in another closely contested match after it ended goalless at full time.
Nicholas took the lead in the 15th minute through a quick move, after Henrican’s goalkeeper, Tharshan slipped while trying to save a goal. When the ball slipped from the goalkeeper’s hands, Ajanthan reacted quickly to score.

Henricans tried to find a goal but the Nicholas players defended well and kept the ball with them while trying to net another goal before half time but they were unable to do so.
In the 70th minute Henrican’s Sivakumaran Krishanth, who captained St.Henry’s College to the Schools championship, got a yellow card when he fouled a St. Nicholas player and St. Nicholas’ was awarded a penalty. However they were unable to convert and double their lead.
Henrican’s took control of the 2nd half and tried to shoot the ball into the goal many times but the brilliant saves from St. Nicholas’ goalkeeper kept them from victory.
