DS Senanayaka kicked off the game with some brilliance as they won a penalty from the onset and looked to gain the upper hand over the Joes in a crucial encounter that both teams needed to get the first win under their belt.

DS kicked to touch with their sights firmly set on the Joes try line but they made a hash of the line out as they lost line out ball. The boys from Darley road made DS pay for their error as they sprung the ball wide getting their speedy back line into action. Vinul Fernando ran around the last DS defender as he touched down early and put DS on the back foot. Chathura Senaviratne missed the conversion. (SJC 05-00 DS)

Minutes after the first score, Vinua ran in for his second try as Joes worked the line again and bamboozled the DS back line to score and extend the Joes lead further. Chathura converted this occasion as the score read 12 nil in favor of the Josephians. (SJC 12-00 DS)

Ayomal Perera was the next to get his name on the score sheet for SJC followed by a try from Vinul as he completed a first half hat-trick to put the Josephians firmly in control of the game. Both tries went unconverted as the score was extended to 22nil in favor of Joes following the 20 minute water break. (SJC 22-00 DS)
