The 89th Battle of the Saints encounter between St. Joseph’s College and St. Peter’s College ended in a draw today (29th April) at SSC Grounds, Colombo.
St. Joseph’s College resumed their first innings on Day 2 at 29/0, and the opening pair Sadeesh Jayawardena and Naren Muralidaran extended their partnership to 54 runs before the latter was dismissed for 20 runs.

St. Joseph’s Number three batter Shevon Daniel did not trouble the scorers much as he made only 12 runs during his short stay at the crease.
The opening batter Jayawardena and No. 4 batter Hiran Jayasundara then built a brilliant century stand for the 3rd wicket before the rain interrupted the play around 1.15 pm. The play could not resume thereafter, as persistent rain forced the game to be ended in a tame draw.
Jayawardena and Jayasundara added an unbeaten 161-run stand for the 3rd wicket, which goes to the record books as the highest 3rd wicket partnership for St. Joseph’s College in the history of the Battle of the Saints encounters.

Jayawardena stole the show before the rain interruption with a brilliant century, while Jayasundara also contributed with a useful half-century for St. Joseph’s College.
