St. Anthony’s took a slow approach to their U-19 inter-school match against host St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena scoring just over 1.5 runs per over on day at Kotahena yesterday.
Batting first Anthonians were 173 for seven in 111 overs as they batted at a snail-pace, a run rate of 1.56 per over.
Visitors lost their K Uggalpaya for a duck in the last ball of the first over but Dmaith Panditharatne (43) and Pulasthi Bandara occupied the crease for 54 long overs adding 72 runs for the second wicket. Panditharatne’s 43 came off 171 balls with four boundaries while Bandara consumed 189 balls for his 39. Mohammed Aflaar remained unbeaten with a painstaking 36 off 138 balls. Yohan Soyza bowled a marathon spell of 48 overs to return the best figures of the match three for 50 while Madushan Kularatne claimed two for 57 after bowling 24 overs in the day.
