St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala defeated St. Anthony’s College, Katugasthota on first innings in the Singer U19 division II two-day semi-finals concluded today at Campbell Park.
St. Anne’s College chased down 184 in the first innings to enter the finals, while securing promotion next year to the Division I category.
St. Anthony’s College were bowled out for 183 on day one (yesterday). They came into this this game with high hopes of reclaiming their place in the top division. They had defeated Royal College, Colombo in the quarter-finals while the Annities qualified to the semi-finals beating Tissa Central College, Kalutara in the quarter-final stage.
St. Anne’s College will now meet the winner of St. Sebastian’s College, Katuneriya and Devapathiraja College, Rathgama.
Sri Lanka U19 cap Wanitha Wanninayake was the man who anchored the innings with an excellent 97 to keep the lads from Kurunegala with title hopes. Wanninayake and Pubudu Ganegama added 95 runs for the 5th wicket partnership while their openers Dhananjaya Bandara and Dineth Chandimal contributed with a solid 58-run stand. Spinner Nimnaka Jayathilake took 3 wickets for 60 runs for the boys from Katugasthota.
