St. Aloysius College, Galle recorded a stunning 13-run win over the fancied S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia team in their ‘Singer Cup’ under 19 inter-schools T20 quarter-finals played on Saturday at Thurstan grounds.
The underdogs from Galle led by Navindu Nirmal won the toss and elected to bat first. They started off shakily losing early wickets as the Thomian fast-bowler Rashmika Opatha grabbed 3 wickets for 12. Harin Buddila, Navindu Nirmal and Sajith Sankalpa made scores over 20 to help St. Aloysius reach 105 in the their allotted 20 overs.
Right-handed Nirmal and left-handed Sankalpa made identical scores of 21 while Buddhila top-scored with a fighting 22. The Thomian skipper Sachitha Jayathilake grabbed 3 for 17 with his right-arm leg-spinners.
Chasing a paltry 106 runs to win, S. Thomas’ College were all at sea as left-arm spinner Hareen Buddhila picked up 3 crucial wickets to bowl the star-studded Thomian line up to only 92 runs. Vice-captain Yohan Mendis was the only batsman to make an impact with the bat for the Thomians as he mustered 34 runs.

S. Aloysius College will now meet the winner of St. Sebastian’s College vs Trinity College quarter-final scheduled to take place on 4th April. The semi-finals will be played on 5th April at R. Premadasa International Stadium.
