An unbeaten half century from Dimuth Karunaratne put the icing on the cake for SSC with an easy nine wicket win over the hapless Chilaw Marians
A brilliant bowling effort saw them collapsing in 26 overs for 90 runs in their Premier Limited Over match played at SSC ground.
SSC opted for four pacemen, Charith Jayampathi, Amila Prasad, Dhammika Prasad and Upul Bandara and they came up with a brilliant effort sharing nine wickets between them to bowl out visitors for below par score on a good batting track. National discard paceman Dhammika Prasad returned best figures with 3 for 24 in his seven over spell while Jayampathi, Amila and Bandara claimed two wickets each. Spinner Kaushal Lokuarachchi claimed the remaining wicket. Umesh Karunaratne was the top scorer with 22.
Chasing an easy target, SSC lost their opener Dhanushka Gunathilake cheaply when Upul Indrasiri had Gunathilake caught off Lahiru Gamage for 11 runs but Dimuth Karunaratne and Upul Bandara made sure they reached home safely and comfortably in just 15.4 overs. Karunaratne made 51 off 52 balls with nine boundaries while Jayasena remained unbeaten on 16. This was the third successive win in the season for SSC while it was Chilaw’s second defeat in a row.
