SSC Open Squash Championship conducted and organized by Sri Lanka Squash Federation will be staged from 6th to 12th September at the Sinhaleese Sports Club Squash courts .The tournament is considered a National Ranking tournament and all the top ranked Squash players are expected to participate.
Dilshan Gunawardena, Ravindu Laksiri and Gihan Suwaris will be the top contestants for the Mens Open event. Current junior and senior National Champion Ravindu Laksiri will be the top favorite to clinch the Mens Open title after being unbeaten in the Open category throughout the year. Defending champion Dilshan Gunawardena who beat Ravindu in a four setter in the previous edition will want to repeat the same performance and take back the revenge. Gihan Suwaris will be the other key player who is quite capable of upsetting any top ranked player with his experience on his day.
Gihan went on to clinch Open Championship at the SSC open championship held two years back.Shamiil Wakeel who has made his mark as an outstanding junior player is another player to be watched as he too is capable of creating many uosets with his crafty shot selection.
Mihiliya Methsarani, Nadindi Udangawa and Naduni Gunawardena will be the top contestants for the Womens Open event. Mihiliya too enjoys an uninterrupted record winning all the open tournaments held this year.Naduni who is just after her Advanced Levels exams will be the other key player who had been a frequent finalist in the Women’s open category.
Nadinidi Udangawa who shocked everyone with her stunning performance at the Commonwealth selection trials will be another key player who is yet to win an open championship yet. Hopes are also on young Fathpum Issadeen who made into the finals at the Sunday Leader open squash championship held recently.
In the junior events Shamil Wakeel, Udantha Hewage,Senindu Induwara Dharmathilaka, Druwinka Perera Mohomed Asmone,Heshan Balasooriya,Methmal Wood and Mohomed Hakim are expected to perform well in their respective age groups in the boys category
Fathoum Issadeen,Wasundara Suwaris, Kasuni Gunawardena, Saduni Gunawardena, Sameera Deen, Chanithma Sinaly and Devmini Gallage are expected to perform well in their respective age groups in the Girls category.
The closing date for entries will be 02nd of September and entries are to be handed over to the SLSF Secretariat at Tamil Union Squash Complex before 2 pm on or before the after mentioned date.
