Fathoum Issadeen and Ravindu Laksiri were honoured with the Women’s and Men’s Open titles at the SSC Open Squash Championship 2018, held at the SSC Indoor Squash Complex.
The SSC Open squash championship is a premier open ranking tournament held annually, attracting many young talents from around the island. The best of the best ranking players play across 7 days, all vying for the ultimate Men’s and Women’s titles.
Asian Games contenders, Ravindu Laksiri and Fathoum Issadeen proved their class yet again, finishing on top of the two open events. Ravindu Laksiri went up against teammate Shameel Wakeel and won comfortably in straight sets, while Fathoum Issadeen was faced with Kasuni Gunawardane as she also came out victorious in straight sets.
Kasuni Gunawardane was able to clinch her gold in the Girls’ Under 19 category defeating S. Deen in the final. H Balasuriya defeated R. Nanayakkara in the Boys’ Under 19 category to take home the Junior title.

In the Junior categories, S. De Silva defeated L. Rajapakshe in the Girls’ U11 while young master T. Wijesekara put out N. Pinwaththe in the Boys U11 to take home gold. R.I Wood and D. Dias won the Girls and Boys Under 13 categories, defeating D Kulathunga and H. Colarage in the finals respectively.
In the Girls Under 15, Y.V Kuruppu beat K. Magonaarachchi in the final while A.N Lakman beat out H.T Randine in the Boys Under 15 final. Y.V Kuruppu was able to clinch her second gold in the Girls Under 17 category, while the Boys U17 title was claimed by M.D Wood when he defeated I.F Asmone.
