The Maitland Place Neighbours, Nondescript Cricket Club and Sinhalese Sports Club have reached to the top of group A & B point’s tables respectively at the end of 6th match day in the SLC Premier Limited Overs Tournament 2015/16 on Tuesday.
SSC has guaranteed their place in the semi-finals while Badureliya and Bloomfield will vie hard for the remaining spot from group B. NCC and Colts from group A, each with 16 points will need to win their last match on Wednesday to book their place in the semi-finals because Saracens and Tamil Union also has an outside chance of making the top four.
On a sunny day, only three games were played in Colombo while the three other matches were abandoned due to bad ground conditions.
SSC vs Badureliya
Danushka Gunathilaka cracked a superb 74-ball 106 as SSC crushed Badureliya SC by 7 wickets at SSC grounds.
After opting to bat first, Badureliya batting crumbled into pieces as 19-year old double-arm spinner, Tharindu Rathnayake took 3 wickets while left-arm spinner Lakshan Jayasinghe and senior paceman, Dilhara Fernando captured 2 wickets each. Lassana Perera made a fighting unbeaten 47.
Badureliya – 144 all out in 40 overs: Hasantha Fernando 31, Lassana Perera 47*, Tharindu Rathnayake 3/25, Lakshan Jayasinghe 2/13, Dilhara Fernando 2/38.
SSC – 145/3 in 17.2 overs: Danushka Gunathilaka 106*, Chamara Kapugedara 29.
Colts vs SL Ports Authority
The Jayasuriya duo, Prabhath and Shehan excelled for Colts as they defeated SL Ports Authority by 5 wickets at Colts grounds.
Left-handed Gayan Maneeshan top-scored for the visitors as they piled on only 187. Left-arm spinner Prabhath Jayasuriya captured 4 wickets while fast-bowler Ishan Jayaratne scalped 3 wickets. Chasing 188 runs to win, Colts reached the target in the 40th over. Sri Lanka short-format specialist, Shehan Jayasuriya fresh from his stint in the BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) mustered 75 off 83 deliveries while young Hashan Dumindu made a solid 57.
SL Ports Authority – 187 all out in 48.3 overs: Gayan Maneeshan 50, Gihan Rupasinghe 28, Harsha Rajapaksa 24, Ishan Jayaratne 3/47, Prabhath Jayasuriya 4/40.
Colts – 192/5 in 39.4 overs: Hashan Dumindu 57, Shehan Jayasuriya 75, Priyamal Perera 25*, Anuk De Alwis 2/34.
Tamil Union vs NCC
NCC overcame a stiff challenge to beat Tamil Union by 39 runs (D/L method) at NCC grounds.
After the game had a delayed start and a restriction of 34 overs per side, NCC raced to 244 for 7 wickets. Experienced opener Upul Tharanga slammed a 69-ball 72 including 9 fours and 2 sixes while young left-hander Sandun Weerakkody blasted 81 in 72 deliveries. Nisala Tharaka picked up 3 wickets for the visitors. Tamil Union were 179 for 8 when the game was stopped for bad light in the 27th over of their chase. Tharanga Paranvithana top-scored with 42 while Farveez Maharoof and Isuru Udana picked up 3 wickets each for the hosts’.
