Sri Lanka’s Thisuri Molligoda wins Asian Tennis Tour

Defending national champion Thisuri Mollligoda showcased a dominant performance in home conditions to take the first week of the Astoria Asian Tennis Tour defeating Indian national Vikram Bhasin in the finals.

The 20-year-old Indian Bhasin was no match for Molligoda as the latter won the final encounter in straight sets with the scores reading 6-2, 6-2. This is Molligoda’s first title since winning  the national championship last August.

The former Visakhian had a successful stint in the Astoria Tennis Tour Week 1, starting off her campaign in the second round, defeating Ritika Yadav of India. She later defeated fellow Sri Lankan Anika Seneviratne in the semi-finals to claim her spot in the finals where she faced off against Bhasin.

The second week will see Thisuri going head to head with the Indian the opponents and she is sure to face stiff competition from the local players in the calibre of Amritha Muttiah and Anika Seneviratne.
