The Tier ‘A’ competition consists of the top 14 clubs in the island. They have been divided into 2 groups, with each team scheduled to play 6 three-day games over the course of seven weeks.

The remaining, lower-ranked 6 teams from both groups will compete in the Plate Tournament with the bottom-ranked team set to play a promotion/relegation match with the winner of the Tier ‘B’.
The Tier ‘B’ competition is scheduled to commence on 21st December. The participating teams have not yet been finalized.

Negombo Cricket Club had a dream run in the Tier ‘B’ last season, winning the trophy as well as earning their promotion to the top inter-club competition for the 2018/19 season.
“This season onwards, we will implement the promotion/relegation match.“ Samantha Dodanwela, Chairman of the SLC Tournament Committee told ThePapare.com.
The first-class matches will end on 10th February. The limited-overs matches and T20 games will start afterwards like last season with all Tier ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams competing in four groups.
SLC have not yet decided on the structure of the Super Provincial Tournament with the ICC Cricket World Cup set to commence in May next year.
