Sri Lanka’s tour of Pakistan didn’t get off to the start they would have liked, as they went down by 6 wickets in the 1st of 3 T20Is in Karachi.

Hasini Perera got the visitors off to a promising start after skipper Chamari Athapaththu won the toss and elected to bat first, slamming Anam Amin back over the bowler’s head for 4 off just the 2nd delivery of the game. But, she was dismissed two balls later, trying to go over the top again.

It didn’t get much better for the visitors, as key batter Athapaththu also fell to Amin in her next over, leaving Sri Lanka’s middle order plenty to do on a turning track. Harshitha Samarawickrama and Anushka Sanjeewani tried to rebuild but it was slow going by the pair, who helped Sri Lanka to 50 in the 10th over.

Tuba Hassan had a dream debut, the leg-spinner coming in to clean up Samarawickrama, Sanjeewani and Kavisha Dilhari to leave Sri Lanka tottering at 64/5; Hassan bagged the Player of the Match award for her match winning spell.

Nilakshi de Silva looked busy in the middle but couldn’t find anyone to stick around long enough with her as wickets continued to fall on the other end. She ended with 25 off 22, giving Sri Lanka a sliver of hope with a score of 106.

The visitors had the perfect start with the ball as left-arm spinner Sugandika Kumari knocked over the other debutant for Pakistan, Gull Feroza for 0.

Sri Lanka were in with a chance when they reduced Pakistan to 3/45 thanks to some tight bowling by Dilhari and Oshadi Ranasinghe, but the experienced duo of Bismah Maroof and Nida Dar managed to take them to what ultimately turned out to be a comfortable win.

The 2nd T20I is scheduled for Thursday, 26th May at the same venue, from 2.30pm (SL time) onwards.
