Sri Lanka Squad for 5th SAFF Women’s Championship 2019

The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) announced a 20-player squad for the 5th SAFF Women’s Championships 2019 in Nepal.

Sri Lanka hoping to perform well in SAFF Women’s & AFC U23 qualifiers

A media briefing was held at the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL)..

Women’s National Football team departed to Nepal on 10th March to participate in the 5th SAFF Women’s Championship to be held from 12th to 22nd March 2019 in Nepal. Sri Lanka will have to compete along with defending champions India and Maldives in Group ‘B’ while Group ‘A’ consists of hosts Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan.

Women’s team was involved in their residential training under Head Coach Thilak Alponsu over a few months. Before this tournament, Sri Lanka National Women’s Team toured to Bahrain, in December last year and played 3 friendly matches with Bahrain National team as a preparation for the SAFF Women’s Championship.

“I’m satisfied with the team because we had many training sessions over few months and played few International friendly matches as well. Our main target is to enter in to the Semi Finals and we will make further plans in accordance,” stated Thilak Alponsu the Head Coach of Women’s National Team.

The team will be captained by Erandi Liyanage while Rushani Gunawardana is the vice-captain. The team has a few new and familiar faces in Dilasha Dias, Poornima Perera, Hashini Ariyarathna who represented Sri Lanka a few years back and K.P. Kumuduni
