Ireland registered a thrilling win over Sri Lanka in the first Women’s ODI of the three-match series worked off today (16th August) at Belfast.
After been put into bat first, Sri Lanka posted a solid total on the board – 260/8 thanks to Vishmi Gunaratne’s maiden century in ODIs.
The opening batter Gunaratne scored 101 runs off 98 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes while No. 4 batter Hasini Perera also chipped in with vital 46 runs to put Sri Lanka in a strong position at the half-way stage of the match.
Orla Prendergast struck a brilliant century to script a thrilling run-chase for Ireland. The middle-order batter Prendergast scored unbeaten 122 runs off 107 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes.
The off-spinner Kavisha Dilhari was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka as she grabbed 4 wickets for 54 runs.
The second ODI between the two sides will be played on the 18th August at the same venue.
