Sri Lanka Women’s cricket team failed to capitalize on a good start as they went down to the West Indies Women by 7 wickets in the 2nd ODI which concluded at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad last(13) evening.
After being asked to bat first in a game reduced to 47 overs per side due to weather, the Sri Lankan openers Nipuni Hansika and Yasoda Mendis put on a half century stand at a brisk pace before Mendis was dismissed in the 11th over of the innings for a quick fire 34 which included 7 fours.
Chamari Atapattu and Dilani Manodara also made useful starts along with Hansika but none them managed to capitalize to go on to make a big score, as Sri LankaWomen’s Cricket team lost their last eight wickets for just 58 runs to be bowled out for 162 inside 50 overs.
It was the West Indian spinners who troubled the visitors once again as Stefanie Taylor, Anisa Mohammed and Afy Fletcher shared seven wickets among them to pull things back for the hosts.
Stefanie Taylor wasn’t done as she guided the run chase with a brilliant unbeaten 62* which included just 3 fours and a six while she got good support from Deandra Dottin who remained unbeaten on 37* as West Indies cruised to a 7 wicket win in the 40th over.
None of the Sri Lankan bowlers looked threatening as West Indies went 2-0 up with Stefanie Taylor being name man of the match.
