The Sri Lanka Women did not have the best start to Day One of the Asia Rugby Emirate 7s Trophy 2024 Competition, losing two games and winning just one match.

The tournament kicked off as Sri Lanka faced India.

The game didn’t go the way the Sri Lankan Ladies hoped it would, as they faced an Indian outfit geared up with the hope of making a difference in the sport of Rugby.

They did manage to do so as the Indian Ladies got the better of Sri Lanka, going on to win, 29-10.

Game two brought about a more positive result for the Sri Lankan Ladies as they managed to get the better out of a lacklustre Iran outfit.

The Iran Ladies were held scoreless as the Lankan Ladies went on to put on 20 points past the hapless Iranians.

Sri Lanka knew that nothing but a win would help their cause in sneaking through to the Cup segment following their third game.

In a nail-biting tense fixture, the Indonesian Ladies managed to hold on for a 2-point win, condemning the Sri Lanka women to the Bowl Segment.

Sri Lanka will now face Nepal at 11.04 AM SL time in the Bowl Quarter Final as they hope to push for Silverware.

Results at the end of day 1:

  • Sri Lanka 10-29 India
  • Sri Lanka 20-00 Iran
  • Sri Lanka 15-17 Indonesia
